The evening offers an exclusive opportunity to see their latest campaign film, Origin, ahead of its public release, followed by a Q&A with the team. Discover the challenges facing Windermere, and the country as a whole, when it comes to privatised water, how the campaign has reached this point, and why it’s vital that we all come together to protect England’s largest lake.
We’re incredibly excited to premiere Origin, a film that embodies Save Windermere’s powerful campaigning approach. It follows founder Matt Staniek as he journeys from the shores of Windermere to the source of its water — revealing what clean water in the Lake District should look like, what’s destroying it, and why we must act now to save Windermere.

Matt Staniek is a zoologist and environmental campaigner from the Lake District, best known as the founder of the Save Windermere campaign. Driven by his deep connection to the area, Matt launched the movement to end sewage pollution in England’s largest lake and protect its fragile ecosystem.
Through community action, scientific research, and public pressure, he’s become a leading voice for clean water in the UK, recognised by The Sunday Times and Big Issue as one of the country’s top environmental changemakers.
